Abortion: Fighting Among Ourselves Solves Nothing

Over the past year there has been new in fighting among pro-lifers. Upstart American Right to Life has accused the stalwart National Right to Life of being part of the problem and not part of the solution.

As Ronald Reagan use to say, “There you go again.” Why can’t we fight the true enemy, the unrepentant, fully knowledgeable pro-death advocate? These are the ones who are pro-choice, pro-euthanasia and pro-federal government funding for such procedures, the death activists. No, we choose to fight each other. This is a method that doesn’t work very well. Does ARTL believe we should fight the war on terror by placing our soldiers on the battlefield to fight against each other? No, of course not, this would be absurd.

Why is it that the new ARTL thinks it will work best to make enemies of those who agree with them on 99 % of the issue? The real issue is how do we go about ridding our land of these vile procedures. NRTL advocates passing laws that will save some babies until we can either pass a law, have judges overturn Roe v. Wade or pass an amendment that will end all abortions. ARTL advances a plan that will change the constitution with a personhood amendment. ARTL says that any law that goes on the books that doesn’t end all the abortions is part of the problem. These laws, they claim, are not an “enforcement of God's enduring command, Do not murder (Luke 18:20).”  They assert, “For a quarter century, National RTL and others have dictated a strategy of child-killing regulations (wait, consent, notify, PBA to the navel, "and then you can kill the baby").”

This outlook is somewhat myopic; no one involved with NRTL is murdering or advocating murder. I agree that there are diffences in the two groups but both have value. I may agree more with the mandates in the ARTL strategy but I must admit there are merits in saving as many babies as possible until we can achieve the ultimate goal. ARTL is in effect saying we should save none until we can save all.

We need to find the middle ground. There is room for both groups without one calling the other immoral. There methods are different but their goal is the same. End abortion.
